Terrific Communion Party Favors!
We planned a small party for our daughters first communion last week. I wanted to find communion favors that would not only be beautiful to the eye but have a spiritual touch to them. The gifts in the shops I went to just didn’t strike my fancy. So I hit the internet in search of the right favors for her party. There were quite a few lovely votive candles that worked out perfectly for table decoration. I chose decorative tins filled with candy for the grown ups and the children received candies packaged in adorable little teddy bear containers as their first communion favors. As extra party favors I ordered these really sweet religious picture frames with a silver cross. I also ordered a couple extra of them for our house, to put my childrens pictures in.
It was almost like we were looking for her wedding dress, instead of a dress for her communion. I know that before long she’ll be walking down the aisle on her wedding day. All she needed was a little bouquet and she would look exactly like a tiny little bride. I guess in a way when you are planning a communion party it’s a little bit like planning a wedding reception. We ordered a cake, had lots of food for everyone and even had a band. We didn’t want to lose the fact of the importance of this special day, but we also wanted to make this party a memorable one. I also bought a girls pink photo album for her to have as her very own with pictures of her first holy communion day and the party with her friends and family. We didn’t have a caterer or anything real fancy, it was all home cooked food and some of the other moms helped with preparing the meal. There were at least four different kinds of salads, including a great tasting potato salad, and vegetable dishes, fried chicken and more. Just a nice dinner to share with our friends and loved ones. It turned out to be a very nice evening and everyone seemed to have a good time, including our daughter. We bought our daughter a very lovely gold cross and had her name put on it, and she got some very exquisite gifts from our friends and family too.
All through the party I couldn’t shake the feeling that I was practicing for the day she grows up and gets married. Someday, not too far away, we’ll be filling out invitations and picking out wedding accessories together. When she’s ready to start planning her wedding and reception, I’ll know the perfect place for her to go shopping. Not only do they have a fantastic communion favor section, but they have pretty nice wedding supplies too.
